How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day on a Budget

Check out these budget-friendly Valentine’s Day ideas

Valentine’s Day is a special time to celebrate with your significant other. Whether you’ve been together for five months or 50 years, it can be difficult to come up with gifts or creative date nights. Here are a few ideas on how you can express your love without breaking the bank – whether it’s in normal times or amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Give thoughtful gifts

Take note if your significant other has been talking about a particular item they’ve been wanting. It can be simple and affordable items like socks or a kitchen accessory. This shows that you listen to your significant other’s needs. Also, thoughtful gifts like writing a letter to your partner or a photo collage of memories you’ve shared can be more meaningful than an expensive trinket. Handmade gifts are more thoughtful, personal, and an opportunity for you to be creative.

Cook dinner together

Instead of dining out, opt to stay in and cook a meal with your significant other. Nothing warms the heart like a home-cooked meal. Depending on both your skill sets, you can cook a simple dish like spaghetti and meatballs or a full three-course meal. Keep an eye out for deals on groceries. To pair with the meal, you can buy a bottle of wine, usually for less than the cost of a glass in a restaurant.

Have an at-home movie night

If your dream date is to go to the movie theater, a cheaper alternative is to do a movie night in the comfort of your own home. You can dress comfortably and get your own concessions without spending as much as you would at the movie theater. You have a wide range of films available to stream from Netflix to Amazon Prime to Hulu. You can set the mood in your home by dimming the lights and lighting some candles.

Go on a hike

For outdoor enthusiasts, you can both put on your warmest jackets and spend Valentine’s Day outdoors. Trek your favorite local trail or discover a new one. Even in the winter, as long as you are dressed warmly, hiking is a good way to spend time with your significant other. To make it even more special, pack a picnic and enjoy a meal on an overlook.

There are many ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day without spending much. Make the experience with your significant other on this day unique. Not only do you get the chance to spend time with your loved one on this special day, but you also save quite a bit of money.
